The TEP Journey
The Engagement Platform was created with the mission to help schools and trusts systematically understand and improve engagement.
How it all began
Incubated by ImpactEd Group, TEP was created out of the need for a robust and simple-to-use measurement tool for engagement. It was designed to test engagement as a leading indicator for school attendance, retention, and outcomes.
Employee engagement
We piloted measuring employee engagement. Results confirmed engagement as a lead indicator for staff retention, showing that happier employees support stronger schools.
Pupil engagement
The Research Commission on Engagement and Lead Indicators (RCELI) collected data from over 100K pupils across England. Findings confirmed strong links between engagement and pupil attendance and outcomes.
Family engagement
Our family engagement pilot drew more than 27,000 responses from families across England. Those insights now sit alongside pupil and employee data, so partners can triangulate across the whole school community rather than read each group in isolation.
The policy shift
The Government's February 2026 schools white paper, Every Child Achieving and Thriving, expects every school in England to monitor pupils' sense of belonging and engagement by 2029, citing TEP as a case study.
Leadership & governance
The largest national census of its kind, our pilot Leadership and Governance Census drew responses from governance roles across 140 schools and central trust teams. Analysed by Professor John Jerrim, it gives boards evidence to reflect and learn from.
